That's silly. Those creatures live out in the desert, and are rarely ever seen in the city.

If you leave your cat roam the neighborhood it stands a better chance of becoming Coyote food than being bitten by bugs.

haha, nah you won't get scorpions in your apartment if you're in the city. If you are in the outskirts of the city, and near the desert, than you might get one or two but not many.

scorpions and tarantulas like the desert terrain, so they're hard to find in the city.

My friend's cat often eats scorpions (she lives out in the desert), and never gets sick or anything, so you don't have to worry about that. In fact, cats will make your home nearly scorpion free!

don't worry too much about scorpions. They are pretty slow moving, and easy to spot (as long as you don't have brown carpeting.) if you do happen to come across one, a shoe can kill it, but Raid is the best, because it's 99% effective.

The big scorpions look scary, but caution: BEWARE OF TINY SCORPIONS!!!! If you do happen to come across one, be careful, because they are more poisonous than the adult ones. Plus, baby scorpions are more likely to sting when they are frightened than adults. (But don't be too worried---like i said, you probably won't see many.)

As for tarantulas, they are nearly harmless, and only look scary. if you see one, you're lucky, because they are fairly rare in the city, and are almost never found in homes.

You only really need to worry about household pests, such as roaches and flies and such, because you'll be more likely to spot those than anything else.

I used to go to the chiropractor about a half-mile from there. The neighborhood looks OK, though a bit rundown as of lately. NO, it's not the best place. Since you're moving to a short-term apartment, which is probably an eyesore like someone else said, your first choice should be to MOVE OUT! But it's hard to look around without first having a place to stay. I sent you a link to a place I lived years ago. It's in central phoenix and a much better place than where you're planning on staying. There are several other apartments in the area. It also depends on what school you're attending. Many schools will offer a list of nearby apartments which you can check out. But you need to get here first to do any searching worthwhile, so good luck on your trip, welcome to the valley!

Depends if you live out by the mountains. YES, in some places the spiders, rattlesnakes and scorpions do get into the house. We get lots of people in the ER where I work stung by scorpions in their homes. Little buggers come in to get warm in the winter when it gets to be 50 here in December instead of 120 in July and August.

If you are moving out into the actual city then, no, you shouldn't have any problems. I have been here in North Phoenix 3 years and have yet to even see a scorpion up close. Yes, they do sting pets, and pets can die from scorpion stings - the venom can cause seizures in small animals and children. But in adults it's no big deal, a little numbness and tingling is about the only result.

Born and raised on the east side(the pretty side lol). I saw scorpions when I was 5(29 now) at my grandparents farm, then didn't see another till I bought a new house on the west side(moving back in 2 weeks thank god) and only 3 of them. I've been stung only once on my second to last toe. It hurt like hell at first, but was never swollen and my last 2 toes were numb for the next 3 days, but that's all. The ones we have here don't kill you unless you have an allergy. I have never seen a tarantula, even camping.

I can almost promise that you will not see one in your apartment. It's more where the farms or newly developed areas are. North phoenix is old and well developed.

You have nothing to worry about.

Don't worry about it too much. But I'll tell you bluntly- If you live on top of a mountain, THEN you could be worried about those things plus snakes. Otherwise, it's not very common. If you're still not at peace, then you can ask your landlord if it's okay for you to call an exterminator and have them treat your house to keep away scorpions/tarantulas. Snakes shouldn't be a problem if you're above a ground floor.

The only time I saw scorpions was when I was living way out in the desert. Black widows were a problem at an apartment complex I used to live in, but as long as you're clean, bugs won't be attracted to your home.

Some areas of Phoenix do have scorpions but you shouldn't worry about them unless you actually see them. I know there's a housing development in Glendale that does have them (Marshall Ranch) .Yes, they will sting a cat or a dog, but once again don't worry unless you discover you really have them.

Ask your landlord and neighbors if they have Scorpions or tanantulas before you move in. Then you'll know. It's not silly to worry when there can be problems in certain areas of town - list to a resident's advice! There are many other areas of life deserving of your worries.
