In my opinion Surprise is not the best place to live because there is major traffic during times when people go to work due to the few exits. It all depends on what you would like to live by or be near. In Phoenix which you have to keep in mind, is that you could be walking in a nice area and then turn the corner and be in a not so great area. Stay away from South Phoenix and Sunnyslope. Suburbs of Phoenix are pretty good like Chandler, Glendale, Scottsdale, Gilbert and Tempe(keep in mind this is where ASU is at so its pretty active and lots of young adults). Best bet is to research areas of Phoenix to see what meets your needs because there is so many places where you could live that its hard to choose the best. Each area has something good or bad to offer.

I'd say Goodyear. It has the same weather, in the same desert with the same heat as Scottsdale, only at 1/2 the price. Crime is low. Since it's in the west valley the traffic is lighter than central Phoenix or the Scottsdale to Tempe routes. Traffic will actually be a concern if you don't live close to where you work. I like the west valley, but most of the good jobs are on the east side. Although if you are in the medical field the west valley's employment outlook has positively exploded.

Surprise, Arizona. It is about 35 miles NW from the center of Phoenix. It is a growing city, very clean, and wonderful weather.

It isn't Surprise! Actually, I don't think there is any one place as the low desert is too hot and humid in the summer and up on the Colorado Plateau it is too cold and (most years but not this year) too snowy. If you want one location and climate is the main concern. I would suggest Payson (small city but nice countryside nearby) or Prescott (but not Prescott Valley). Sedona would be very nice though crowded in the high tourist season and VERY EXPENSIVE.

Tempe is cool - that's where ASU is so there's lots to do.
