You would love it. It was considered a party school when I went there, but any college is what you make it. I did my share of partying, but I was in the library at least 20 hours a week, and in the art studio another 30.
It is indeed a huge university and I came from a high school graduating class of 130 academic private school in Honolulu. I thought I would be overwhelmed by the size but each school of study is like a college within a college, so it's not really as big as it seems. There are several libraries as well, so life for me took place in only about 1/8th of the entire university. I probably visited the admin building at the other end of campus 2 times...the day I arrived, and the day I picked up my diploma. I even lived on the same side as the Art school.
The weather is great. When you want a change of scenery (or weather) you can head to Flag (Flagstaff, where Northern AZ State U is) to ski in winter or cool off in summer. The Native American culture permeates the local lifestyle. Ghost towns (Jerome, Tortilla Flats), western towns, diverse seasonal beauty. Fun water sports. Fabulous restaurants and bars. Great college sports, and music concerts in every genre on the planet. Shopping for anything is amazing. When I went there, men outnumbered women 3 or 4 to 1 so my social life was absolutely amazing as well. Met my husband there. Got married in the little chapel on campus.
I had the time of my life and got a great education as well. A lifetime of memories and wisdom from the experience.
